Happy Friday From Julieta Venegas!

Before I even learned to speak Spanish I knew every word to every song on Julieta Venegas’ breakthrough album . It didn’t matter that I couldn’t understand the lyrics at first because I understood the sentiment through the way she sang and the music she played.

Born in California but raised in Tijuana, Venegas is one of Mexico’s biggest pop-rock exports, going from a brooding rockera in her first two albums Aquí and Bueninvento to the current sound of her last three albums that’s more pop yet no less  introspective.

In an interview I once saw with Venegas, she was asked if she would ever write music in English.  She replied that although she wasn’t completely adverse to the idea, she preferred to sing songs in the language of her mother, her family, and her loves.  I started taking Spanish classes soon after.

English, Spanish, whichever  language, enjoy the videos and have a great weekend!
