Several Groups Call For Sheriff Joe Arpaio’s Resignation

In certain circles Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio has always been unpopular but now groups are getting organized to actively lobby for his removal.
- Citizens for A Better Arizona, which successfully organized to recall SB 1070 author Russell Pearce, is lobbying to have him removed by the county supervisors there.
- Cafe Con Leche Republicans has also called for his resignation.
Given that the Department of Homeland Security has taken away Arpaio’s ability to enforce the immigration policies he loved, since he racially profiles and mistreats Latinos in his detention, and the chance that Arizona may be a swing state in 2012, it’s possible that others may come out of the woodwork.
