May Day protests show weak immigration movement (Boston Globe/Associated Press):  2006, the rallies have gotten smaller, less focused and increasingly splintered by any number of groups with a cause. In New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco and Oakland, Calif., May Day protests on Tuesday were dominated by Occupy Wall Street activists. That’s a sign of how far the immigration has fallen off the radar.

Rubio’s fake DREAM Act does little to help citizenship process (National Catholic Reporter): Like the DREAM Act, Rubio’s suggestion would affect those DREAM Act people who go on to college or join the U.S. military; but, unlike the DREAM Act, only make them eligible to apply for a green card or workers’ visa and not citizenship, or at least not immediately, and then only after applying behind many others who have already applied for both a visa and citizenship.

Supreme Court Says: Racial Profiling Here to Stay (Politics 365):  Given the intense drilling from Supreme Court justices hearing oral arguments in the Arizona immigration law challenge, writing is on the wall says the law may likely be upheld.

Hispanic vote key to winning Florida (ABC News):  The key to winning the state is the Hispanic vote, and both president Barack Obama and the Republicans are focusing a lot of time and money on wooing Latinos. There are 50 million Hispanics living in the United States, but fewer than half are eligible to vote; the rest are either under 18 years of age or are not US citizens.

Will Young Voters of Color Hit the Polls? (Politics 365): …a clear majority (55%) of 18-29 year olds believe “elected officials don’t have the same priorities I have.” They also believe that politics has become too partisan (49%). What’s worse is that 59% believe that “elected officials” seem to be motivated by selfish reasons” and only 24% reported “liking” a political candidate on Facebook.

Newt Gingrich Ending Presidential Bid – Again (Fox News Latino):  Compared with the other Republican presidential nominees, Gingrich’s struck the least hard-line tone on illegal immigration. And his Latino outreach efforts were the most extensive. One effort that made headlines is The Americano, a website for  Hispanics founded by Gingrich Communications. In December 2010, under the banner of The Americano, Gingrich held a forum for Latinos in Washington D.C.

UTSA named a top producer of Hispanic advanced-degree holders (San Antonio Business Journal):  UTSA ranked 10th in the nation for awarding 157 master’s and doctoral degrees in education to Hispanic students and a 24th ranking in the nation for awarding 43 master’s and doctoral degrees in business with concentrations in management and marketing.
