The head of the 2.1 million-member union — 25 percent of whom are Latino — last week kicked off a national tour with other Latino groups to try to bump up the Latino voter turnout. The goal of ¡Todos a Votar! (“Let’s Vote”): 12 million Latino voters, which would be up 20 percent over 2008.

How voter ID laws could affect the outcome in November (Politico):  At least 5 million voters, predominantly young and from minority groups sympathetic to President Barack Obama, could be affected by an unprecedented flurry of new legislation by Republican governors and GOP-led legislatures to change or restrict voting rights by Election Day 2012.

Latinos less likely to take student loans to pay for college, study reports (Voxxi):  According to the national report, How America Pays for College 2012, Latinos are the least likely out of all demographics to take student loans to pay for college. Only 40 percent of Latinos borrowed monies for secondary education, compared to 43 percent of non-Hispanic whites and 51 percent of non-Hispanic blacks.
