Pasco to hold second public hearing Feb. 23 on redrawing city council voting districts

Pasco residents are invited to speak up Feb. 23 about how their city council voting districts will be redrawn in advance of this year’s election cycle.

The City Council is holding its second public hearing on potential boundary realignment to assure equitable representation.

District boundaries currently are set based on voting precinct boundaries established by the Franklin County auditor. Under Pasco code, the population within each district must not deviate by more than 10 percent from other districts.

Pasco redraws council boundaries every two years because of the city’s growth toward the west.

City staff previously presented the council with three options. The proposals ensure that at least two of the city’s five voting districts have a Hispanic majority.
