Jose Galvez captures the world as he finds it, one black-and-white image at a time.

“I think of myself as a classic street photographer,” Galvez said. “I cruise around, see something that catches my eye, stop and start taking pictures.”

What usually catches Galvez’s eye is the everyday life of Latinos who live and work throughout the United States.

It’s been a major subject of Galvez’s work since the early 1970s, when he got his first job as a photographer with Arizona Daily Star in his hometown of Tucson, and through his time at the Los Angeles Times, when he was chief photographer of the team that won the 1984 Pulitzer Prize for Community Service.
