National event to showcase diversity of Latino theater

When Latino theater groups from around Texas and the country meet at the end of this month, most of them will tell you one thing:
Latino theater is alive and thriving in this country.
[pullquote]“This is where our stories are being told, and where we have control over our own stories and represent ourselves.”[/pullquote]Just don’t refer to it solely as “Latino theater.”
Because it’s really part of the American theater — surging with vitality and energy and creativity because of its diverse nature, says University of North Texas associate professor Teresa Marrero.
“Latino theater is part of the American fabric,” said Marrero, who sits on the steering committee of the national Latino Theater Commons, which is organizing its third “convening” in Dallas next Friday through Sunday.
