Lupita Nyong’o, fresh off the set of the 7th installment of Star Wars, was recently interviewed along with her “The Force Awakens” co-star Oscar Isaac.

What caught many people off guard – and a little more than surprised – was that not only was the interview with Univision’s Jorge Ramos, but that the interview was conducted in Spanish.

That’s right, not a lot of people know about Nyong’o’s Latin Roots: she was born in Mexico City to Kenyan Parents. She returned to Kenya where she grew up, and returned to Mexico at 16 and now identifies herself as a Mexican-Kenyan.

“I’m Mexican and Kenyan at the same time. I’ve seen the quarrels over my nationality, but I’m Kenyan and Mexican at the same time. So again, I am Mexican-Kenyan and I am fascinated by carne asada tacos,” she said.
