Latino groups rally against immigration bills

*This is happening today across Wisconsin, but these aren’t isolated protests. For several months there have been organized protests that haven’t gotten the attention of mainstream national media. They’re trying to call attention to several immigration law changes that would allow police to ask for the immigration status of people detained for driving without a license, and to ban cities from granting ID cards to some undocumented. Activists are calling today and tomorrow “state-wide days of action” because the bills they’re protesting will come up for votes tomorrow and Wednesday. VL

Protestors are hoping to defeat bills that would allow police to ask people charged with driving without a license about immigration status, and in some cases not allow a city to give them personal ID cards.
