I’ve never liked that word. The problem I have with it is that it dehumanizes the immigration debate.

An illegal anything is an act, not a person, defined by a law, not humanity.

I once wrote a column and referred to undocumented workers as “undocumented taxpayers.” You can imagine the letters (Yeah, it’s been a while, before email.) I received.

I think this campaign, started by colorlines.com, has merit.
