Guapura 101: Eyeliner

Okay ladies, I’m not the biggest fan of wearing makeup everyday. Shoot, since I was laid off a few years ago and began blogging, I really haven’t had many occasions for which makeup was, well, necessary. Yet, I did recently have the need to get dolled up and was glad I remembered some of the fundamentals of applying eyeliner.

I learned how to apply makeup from a hodge podge of female relatives and friends, books by makeup artists and Google. Perhaps this doesn’t make me an expert, but for my greasy face it works. Here’s the basics.

  • Wash your face.
  • Apply a non-greasy SPF lotion.
  • Let that absorb.
  • You’re going to want to first apply loose powder all over your face, but particularly on your eyes. I use the mineral makeup stuff, it doesn’t matter, trust me this works. Just close your eyes and apply a coat of loose powder to your lids (don’t overdo it, though).
  • Then apply whatever foundation you’re going to use.
  • Whether you use liquid eyeliner or pencil, the fact that you put this powder on somehow makes it stay on longer. Especially with the liquid eyeliners, I find it’s easier to apply because it absorbs and dries quicker.
  • Voilà, you’re good to go.

I usually apply the eyeliner before I apply the eyeshadow, but the use of loose powder on your eye lids also helps to make the shadow stay longer. As I said, I’m not professional, but this is what I’ve learned by doing/advice/reading and it’s worked for me. As I mentioned, I have oily skin, so the fact that this powder helps my face from melting has proven to me that it can work for others, too.
