The Top 5 Christmas Foods To Look Forward To

So most of us struggle to find our way around the consumerism that occupies this time of the year. What about family? Being grateful for the people in your life? Celebrating the good things in life? The point being, that there are all sorts of things to enjoy this holiday season that have nothing to do with presents or stuff you can buy. Here are just a few.

1.) Tamales.

Whether or not you have your own tamalada, everyone can get in on the tamal love (yes, the singular of tamal has no “e” on the end). It seems like everyone gets into the tamal game this time of year, whether it’s in the parking lot of your local supermarket or your favorite Mexican restaurant. My faves are frijol con queso and rajas de chile.

2.) Ponche.

When I was a wee lass, I would look curiously into the giant pots of floating fruits and wonder what all was in there. Nowadays, I don’t really care, because even though I’m not a huge fan of juice, I can easily get into ponche.

3.) Buñuelos.

Having made these puppies personally, I can tell you that there are few things yummier than a hot, fresh buñuelo on a cold winter night. They’re pretty easy to make and just plain delicioso.

4.) Champurrado or chocolate.

I grew up on chocolate, but have also tried champurrado, and both are great ways to warm up in the cold weather, and also just plain yummy!

5.) Pozole.

I just helped myself to a generous portion of my mom’s red pozole this week (there’s also green pozole) and am looking forward to many more servings before the winter’s over!

I’m sure I missed some yummy Christmas foods, which are your faves?
