Wenona Benally Received Support From 2,000 Donors Last Quarter
Arizona congressional candidate Wenona Benally Baldenegro raised funds from more than 2,000 individual donors last quarter, according to a statement from her campaign. This announcement is especially pertinent because she has said she wanted to run a grassroots campaign and avoid taking corporate money for her campaign.
“I am running a grassroots campaign that is not accepting donations from corporations and big-money interests. I am only accepting money from regular folks, i.e. those of us who make up the 99% of our country. I’m doing this because I want to be held accountable to the people, not to corporations and the very wealthy,” she said in a statement.
Benally Baldenegro would be the first Navajo woman to serve in Congress if elected to congressional district 1, encompassing Flagstaff, as well as 11 Indian tribes.
