By Julio Morales, Imperial Valley Press
The first time Esperanza Zendejas had some of her writing published was when she was in the eighth-grade. Her father knew a newspaper editor in Michoacán, Mexico, and they had arranged to publish young Zendejas’ accounts of life in America.

“I know I had a huge following because I was describing America with my own eyes,” Zendejas said.
The longtime Valley educator and current Texas resident said such Latino-oriented literature can help draw students further into the classroom.
