Latina lawmaker says she’ll run for Texas lieutenant governor

AUSTIN — Sen. Leticia Van de Putte of San Antonio, a veteran Texas lawmaker and nationally recognized Latina leader, will serve notice this week that she wants to be Wendy Davis’ running mate as a Democratic candidate for lieutenant governor.

The decision means the Democratic ticket next year in Texas is likely to showcase two women vying to be their party’s highest-ranking statewide officeholders.
