Latina Democrat throws hat in ring for Texas lieutenant governor

One way or another, on the floor with a microphone or on the dais with a gavel, Leticia Van de Putte will be back in the Texas Senate when it convenes in 2015.

“I prefer the dais,” said the Democrat from San Antonio.

On Saturday, Van de Putte, 58, became a 2014 candidate for lieutenant governor, vying for a historic role with Democratic gubernatorial candidate Wendy Davis in trying to end 20 years of GOP dominance in statewide offices.
