Cesar Chavez faces lawsuit to kick him off ballot

The former Republican who changed his name to Cesar Chavez to run in a largely Hispanic district, now faces a lawsuit seeking to kick him off the ballot.

The head of the Arizona Democratic Party predicted a challenge to Chavez’s candidacy for Congress after revelations the former Scott Fistler had run twice unsuccessfully as a Republican before changing his name to that of the civil-rights leader and becoming a Democrat.

The complaint filed today alleges that hundreds of Chavez’s nomination signatures are invalid and that he sought to confuse voters with his name change, a violation classified as a class 2 misdemeanor.
