Good sense?

*The late Molly Ivins called him “Governor Good Hair,” it was her way of pointing out Rick Perry’s postcard politician character. This week Perry reminded me why Ivins held him in such regard. He called the National Guard to the border, and the Houston Chronicle Editorial Board called him out. VL

Desperate Central American children fleeing violence and hopelessness – nearly 60,000 of them – have given Gov. Rick Perry the opportunity to do what he’s been itching to do for years. He gets to put “boots on the ground” at the border, a thousand National Guardsmen who, ostensibly, will be supporting the Texas Department of Public Safety’s so-called law-enforcement surge named Operation Strong Safety.

Actually, it’s potential presidential candidate Perry who’s deploying the troops to the border, the same combat-ready would-be president who ventured onto the roiling waters of the Rio Grande a few days ago with conservative talk-show host Sean Hannity.
