Thaw in U.S.-Cuba relations benefits art world

The normalizing of relations between the United States and Cuba opens endless opportunities in the world of art, from bilateral collaboration between museums to ambitious tours and exhibits by Cuban artists, who spark more interest than ever among New York’s collectors.

“I was there when the president (Barack Obama) announced new relations with Cuba and it was a day to celebrate: people were euphoric about the artistic possibilities of these new relations,” Holly Block, executive director of The Bronx Museum of the Arts, told Efe.

The museum recently announced a historic collaboration with the National Museum of Fine Arts in Havana, which represents the biggest artistic exchange between Cuba and the United States in the last 50 years, and is the result of negotiations that began long before diplomatic relations between the two countries were renewed.
