Federal court refuses to lift order halting Obama immigration programs

A federal appeals court in Louisiana has refused to lift a lower court’s ruling that blocked President Obama’s landmark executive actions that aimed to shield up to 5 million people from deportation.

The U.S. 5th Circuit Court of Appeals in New Orleans issued its 68-page ruling on Tuesday afternoon.

“Because the government is unlikely to succeed on the merits of its appeal of the injunction, we deny the motion for stay,” the court wrote.
