Afro-Latino Spider-Man Miles Morales Will Join the Canonical Marvel Universe This Fall

*If you follow Marvel Comics and Spider-Man you’ll know that there are two separate Spider-Man universes: the original Peter Parker universe and a second Miles Morales universe that appeared four years ago. The plan, according to Marvel, is return to one universe where Miles emerges as Spider-Man with an older Parker as his mentor. Even if you’re not into comics, this is pretty cool. VL

Morales, the teenage son of an African-American father and Puerto Rican mother, first appeared as Spider-Man four years ago in Ultimate Comics: Spider-Man, following the supposed death of Peter Parker in Ultimate Spider-Man. Marvel launched its Ultimate line of comics at the turn of the century as a way for the company to modernize many of its flagship characters.

That will all change this fall following the company’s restructuring of many of its titles through what’s known as the “Secret Wars” saga.
