As political speculation continues to swarm around the vice-presidential possibility of U.S. Housing and Urban Development Secretary Julian Castro, the Texas Democrat isn’t saying “no” to the idea of running for his state’s governor in 2018.

“Right now, that’s not on my radar screen,” Castro told KXAN on Sunday at the Texas Tribune Festival in Austin. “Could I say with 100 percent certainty that I would never choose to do that? I can’t say that either, but it’s not likely to happen.”

As his time in President Obama’s cabinet winds down, Castro said he is fielding plenty of questions about his future – namely teaming up with former U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, as she campaigns for the White House. Last week, Clinton suggested Castro is on her list of potential running mates should she secure her party’s nomination.
